Meet Brad Iturriaga
Southbar is Brad Iturriaga's room on Henderson Blvd, and the idea behind it is easy to explain in one breath: the biggest matchups go up on massive screens with the sound on, the bands take the stage when the games end, and the DJs keep the night going until 3AM. That's the whole arc. Come for the game, stay for the music, leave when the lights come on.
Brad built Southbar because South Tampa had plenty of places to catch a game and plenty of places to hear a band, but not many that would do both on the same night without asking you to move your car. So he put them in one room. The night doesn't stop at the final whistle — it changes gears.
SouthBar is South Tampa's new home for sports, live music, DJs, and nights that don't end after the final whistle.
How the Room Works
The main wall carries the marquee game, and there are screens around the bar so you're not craning your neck from the far end. The sound stays on for the matchups that deserve it — Brad is firm about that. A bar where the game is muted and a playlist is winning is a bar that doesn't know what it's for.
There's a real stage, not a corner with a stool on it. When the whistle goes, the screens step back and the band steps up. After the set, the DJs take over and the floor opens up. It's the same room, the same crowd, the same bartenders — you just look up at different things as the night goes on.
Practically, that means you can plan a whole evening around one address. Get there early for the first pitch or the first kick, eat, drink, stay through the band, and still be on the dance floor hours later. Nobody has to negotiate a second stop.
Every Fan Base Gets a Seat
Brad's one house rule is that every fan base is welcome. Tampa is full of transplants, alumni and people who inherited a team from a parent who lived somewhere else entirely, and Southbar is not the kind of place that makes you feel like a guest for wearing the wrong colors. Rival jerseys sit two stools apart here most weeks, and that's the point.
What that looks like in practice:
- The biggest matchups on the big screens, whoever is playing
- Sound on for the games worth hearing
- Room for groups who want to watch their team together
- Live bands on the stage once the games wrap
- DJs carrying the night through to 3AM
If you're organizing a watch crew — a college group, a supporters' club, a few coworkers who all follow the same out-of-town team — get in touch before the game and Brad's team will sort out where you sit and what's on the screen nearest you.
